CONTEXT

Administrative/Biographical history:

The Aldgate and Allhallows Barking Exhibition Foundation was established by a Charity Commissioners' Scheme of 1894 which combined three parish charities, Hickson's, Starling's and Death's charities. The income of the Foundation was to be applied in maintaining exhibitions at secondary schools and Oxbridge. Any residual income could be used for the purposes of the Sir John Cass Technical Institute. Records pre-dating 1894 are largely of Death's Charity and include minutes and title deeds.

Records of the Aldgate and Allhallows Barking Exhibition Foundation and predecessors Death's Charity and Starling's Trust, including minute books; conveyances; appointment of trustees; Chancery Court papers; financial accounts; schemes for management of the charity; litst of candidates and scholars; title deeds and other papers relating to properties owned by the Charity.

The archive was deposited in Guildhall Library Manuscripts Section by the Foundation in 1995 (apart from Ms 19627-8). The records were catalogued by a member of the Manuscripts Section of Guildhall Library. The Guildhall Library Manuscripts Section merged with the London Metropolitan Archives in 2009.
