DESCRIPTION NOTES
Note:
A prothonotary was the principal clerk of a court. The Court of Common Pleas emerged in the thirteenth century as a court to settle civil disputes under common law. It was merged with the Court of Chancery and the Court of King's Bench to form the High Court of Justice in 1873.
