DESCRIPTION NOTES

Note:

In 1695, Parliament decided not to renew the Licensing Act. As a result, newspapers, such as the twice-weekly London newspaper The Post Boy, began to appear. The Post Boy was issued with two blank pages for a while in 1700, which allowed the purchaser to add a letter when dispatching the paper to friends in the country.

Archivist's note: Entry compiled by Richard Temple.

Rules or conventions: Compiled in compliance with General International Standard Archival Description, ISAD(G), second edition, 2000; National Council on Archives Rules for the Construction of Personal Place and Corporate Names 1997.
