Scope and content/abstract:

Letter from John Ashton Yates of Bryanston Square, London to his brother James Yates of Bagdale, Whitby, 19 Aug 1843. Describing his family's journey from Whitby to London and the visits they made en route. 'The second night we slept at Rugby and saw the 500 boys at their desks'. Autograph, with signature. Date derived from the postmark; the letter itself is dated 'Saturday noon'.
