CONTEXT

Administrative/Biographical history:

The Petersfield Women's Suffrage Society (c 1911-1933) was established sometime prior to Jun 1911 with the Countess of Shelborne as its patron. That same year, it was able to distribute 3000 copies of a free suffrage newspaper in the area. The following year it was affiliated to the Federated Council of Suffrage Societies. It later changed its name to the Petersfield Society for Equal Citizenship and continued its activities until 1933. The St Pancras Society came into being some time before 1927 and continued its work after 1930.

CONTENT

Scope and content/abstract:

The archive consists of an agenda, accounts and duplicated manuscript annual report for the annual general meeting of the Petersfield Society in 1912 and annual reports 1921-1933. Annual reports of the St Pancras Society 1927-1930.

These records were located on Fawcett Library shelves (some with the printed UDC Collection). As they are predominantly manuscript material they were transferred to the archive collections c 1989.

2LSW holds a significant amount of information on the St Pancras North and East elections and suffrage campaigns. The Autograph Lettter Collection also contains some letters referring to suffrage activities in Petersfield and St Pancras areas.
