Administrative/Biographical history:

The working party was established by the College in July 1980 in order "To consider developments in further specialisation within the field of obstetrics and gynaecology, including training implications, and to make recommendations" (minutes 6 Nov 1980: ref M12/1). The working party first met in November 1980. It presented its report to Council in 1982. The report was published as a discussion document in November 1982.

Papers of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) working party on further specialisation within obstetrics and gynaecology, comprising copy minutes, 1980-1982; correspondence and other records, including a report by the working party's chairman, C R Whitfield, on his visit to America, 1980-1982; correspondence between Anthony Alment, PRCOG, and others concerning further specialisation; also related records, including a copy of the working party's 'Updated Guidelines for Discussion on Subspecialisation', June 1981; published copy of the working party's final report, 1982.

Archival history:

Not certain, but the secretary to the College Secretary provided administrative support for the working party, so some of the material may have passed to the Archives by the College Secretary's Office. There is also a considerable quantity of President's correspondence included, so other material may have come from the President's Office.
