Administrative/Biographical history:

William Brass of Old Street, Finsbury and 'The Elms', Leigham Court Road, Surrey, builder and contractor, died on 14 January 1888. In his will he appointed his eldest son William, half brother Robert Brass and son-in-law Ernest Grimwade trustees of his estate, to manage it for the benefit of his children when they reached adulthood.

At the time of his death, William Brass owned property in the City of London and neighbouring boroughs, of which buildings in Angel Court, Bishopsgate, Cheapside, Lime Street, Old Change and in the borough of Finsbury were the main concerns.

Scope and content/abstract:

Records ofWilliam Brass and his estate, comprising accounts, agreements, correspondence and related papers. They were catalogued by a member of Guildhall Library staff in 1987. Ms 22352 includes a schedule of Trust records drawn up in 1954.

Records relating to the administration of the estate were given to the Manuscripts Section in March 1987 by the Official Solicitor to the Supreme Court, who has acted as trustee since 1976. The Guildhall Library Manuscripts Section merged with the London Metropolitan Archives in 2009.
