Context
Administrative/Biographical history:
Samuel Fisher, Baron Fisher of Camden, was a leading member of the Anglo-Jewish Community and a well-known figure in London local government. Born Samuel Fishtenberg in Stepney, East London in 1905, he rose from working as a diamond broker in Hatton Garden to become Secretary and Vice-President of the London Diamond Bourse.
He was Mayor of Stoke Newington Metropolitan Borough 1953-1954 and Camden London Borough 1965-1966, and Chairman of the London Labour Mayors Association 1966-1977. He was knighted in 1967 and made a life peer in 1974.
His influence was felt on a number of London wide bodies such as the Metropolitan Water Board where he was the final Chairman 1973-1974, and national bodies such as the Board of Deputies of British Jews where he was President from 1973 to 1979. Baron Fisher died in 1979.

Scope and content/abstract:
Records of Samuel Fisher, local government officer. The collection reflects the range of his interests and involvement in public life, including papers created while Mayor of Stoke Newington, Mayor of Camden, Chairman of the London Labour Mayors Association and President of the Board of Deputies of British Jews. There are also personal papers and a large number of photographs and press cuttings, as well as some film reels and badges of office/medals.
