Administrative/Biographical history:
Reginald Earle Welby, 1832-1915, was educated at Eton and Trinity College, Cambridge. He entered the Treasury in 1856, becoming Assistant Financial Secretary of the Treasury in 1880, Auditor of the Civil List in 1881, and Permanent Secretary of the Treasury, 1885-1894. He was also a commissioner of the 1851 Exhibition, and Chairman of London County Council in 1900.

Papers of George Arbuthnot concerning currency, as edited by V D[elves?] B[roughton?]; Papers of Lord Welby concerning the organisation of Government departments, gold coinage, Indian currency, bimetallism, coinage, and the Bank of England; Lord Welby's correspondence; and a compendium of information on British administration in the mid 19th century.

2. Papers of Lord Welby on the organisation of Government departments, 1852-1860.

4-6. Papers and letters of Lord Welby on Indian Currency, bimetallism etc, 1878-1898.
7-8. Papers and letters of Lord Welby on coinage and the Bank of England, 1844-1895.
9. Miscellaneous letters and papers, 1844-1913.
10. A compendium of information, including letters, minutes and official print on British administration in the mid 19th century, divided into: Miscellaneous Foreign Office, Printing, Scotland, Civil Service, Public Buildings, New Law Courts, Law Public, Bill Drafting and Political, c1850-c1870. All letters are addressed to Lord Welby unless it is otherwise stated.
