AIM25 is an educational charity (registered no. 1168908) supporting the development of and public access to historical archives held in the London area.
Archives come in many forms, but include old photographs, diaries, maps, sound and film recordings and much more. They are usually unique and irreplaceable and tell many stories about the history of London and the world. Furthermore, many historic archives remain at risk, for example when the owners of collections move home, when buildings are cleared out prior to redevelopment or when organisations run out of space.
Through its partnership with Max Communications, AIM25 provides free online access to collection level descriptions from the archives of over 140 higher education institutions, learned societies, local authorities, cultural organisations and livery companies within the London region, for the purposes of research, teaching and public enjoyment.
This work is ongoing – new institutional partners and data is always being added. From autumn 2024, and thanks to sponsorship from Max Communications, AIM25 is free to join, and Members will be able to upload collection level descriptions free of charge. So please visit often to see latest additions.
AIM25 supports the professional development of archives and archivists in London through training events, helps connect archivists with interested researchers and members of the public, and delivers funded projects to catalogue, digitise, preserve, and promote the capital’s history.
