Administrative/Biographical history:

In a letter to The Times on September 8 1883, a J G Bradford of 157 Dalston Lane, E, wrote of the value of tombstone inscriptions. He stated that he has "as a matter of amusement" copied inscriptions in several churchyards and will leave "the collection at my death to some public library".

Research notes by J G Bradford, including index to pedigrees and arms contained in the heralds' visitations in the British Museum; genealogical notes relating to members of the peerage; genealogical notes on the mayors of London; and collection of county heraldic visitations.
