Scope and content/abstract:
Letters to Sarmiento concerning poetry, publications and literature. Seventeen letters from the Spanish poets Manuel Altolaguirre and his wife Concha Mendez (1934-1935), 18 from Luis Cernuda, with copies (1938-1940), and about 20 from Aubrey Bell (1936-1947). Manuscript poem of Altolaguirre with transcript. Facsimile edition of manuscript poems of José Silva's 'El Libro de Versos' (1945), and photocopies of various articles about Silva. Translations of poems by St John of the Cross, and other poems by Sarmiento; together with 2 letters from Sarmiento to Jim Cummins of the Department of Spanish and Latin American Studies at UCL (1976-1986).
