The River Plate Trust Loan and Agency Company Ltd (founded in 1881), which administered various companies in South America, was succeeded in 1961 by the River Plate and Mercantile Trust Ltd (later the River and Mercantile Trust PLC).

Deposited by Rivermoor Management Services Ltd (manager of the River and Mercantile Trust PLC) in 1984. A small collection of notes made by Charles Jones and Linda Jones from part of the original archive that was destroyed in the 1970s was donated to UCL in 2018.
