CONTEXT
Administrative/Biographical history:
The Club de Dakar was founded on 2-3 December 1974 as a French initiative to improve industrial relations between western industries and Francophone African countries. It was instigated by Mohammed T. Diawara (later President of the Club), Minister for Planning, Ivory Coast. Following conferences in Birmingham in 1978, a British branch was established and interests were expanded to include Anglophone African countries. It seems that the Club de Dakar ceased its activities in c1988.

Papers, 1977-1988, relating to the Club de Dakar, comprising correspondence, research papers and publications. Includes lists of members; press cuttings; conference and discussion papers; minutes of meetings; reports; accounts and publications.

Language/scripts of material: The majority of the papers are in French, with some material in English.

The papers have been arranged into the following sections: files created by William Black-Campbell, a member of the Club de Dakar; Club de Dakar membership lists; Club de Dakar conference and meeting papers; Club de Dakar reports and accounts; Club de Dakar discussion papers; other papers; and publications. Within each section, papers have been arranged chronologically.
