Medical librarian and historian, attached to Wellcome Historical Medical Museum. Papers of Charles Thompson including essays, notes, recipe book (MS.7984) and correspondence, 1893-1936. Much of this material was created in Thompson's capacity as a Wellcome employee.

MSS.7984-7985 transferred to the Wellcome Library from the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain (MS.7984 presented to the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain by Miss C.F. Thompson, daughter of C.J.S. Thompson, in January 1972; MS.7985 carries Pharmaceutical Society stamp dated August 1973, presumably date of acquisition by the Society). Remaining items transferred from elsewhere in Wellcome organisation: transferred from store, April 1936, 1941, January 1957. MS.8574 found in the Wellcome Library copy of Vidius, Chirurgia, 1544, and transferred to the Archives and Manuscripts department, March 2001 (acc.919).

In the Wellcome Library: Thompson's work is also documented in the Wellcome Archives (WA/). Material by him on the history of midwifery forceps is found at MS.8525. MSS.7625 and 8506-8507, which document the pioneering work of Henry Hill Hickman in anaesthesia, contain material relating to Thompson's investigation of Hickman's work.
