CONTEXT
Administrative/Biographical history:
Dr Saunders-Jacobs, MA, MD, DPH, spent most of her career as a Medical Officer in South London. While she had experience in most of the areas covered by local government public health work, for some time she seems to have concentrated on Maternal and Child Welfare, as women doctors in public health posts often did. Later on she appears to have taken particular interest in tuberculosis and diseases of the chest.

Archival history:
Immediate source of acquisition:
These papers were received by the Contemporary Medical Archives Centre (now Archives and Manuscripts, Wellcome Library) from Dr Saunders-Jacobs' niece, along with a number of books (now in the Modern Medicine Collection of the Wellcome Library) found while she was clearing the house after her aunt's death. These papers were in a fairly confused state when they arrived, and are certainly not a complete record of Dr Saunders-Jacobs' career.
