CONTEXT

Administrative/Biographical history:

In 1942 the Royal College of Physicians of London (RCP) and the Royal College of Surgeons of England (RCSENG) met together and agreed to ask the RCOG to co-operate to form a Standing Joint Committee of the three Royal Colleges. The Committee initially met each month to discuss matters of mutual interest, particularly the training of consultants; the three College presidents alternated as chairman.

ARCHIVAL INFORMATION

Appraisal, destruction and scheduling information:

Accruals:

No further accruals are expected.

Archival history:

C1/1-7 comprise College working party members' copies of minutes and papers, probably removed from the file series of the College presidents. The series peters out in 1974, and there are no further records in Presidents' papers from this time. The committee may therefore have been disbanded in 1974, but there is no information on file to confirm this.

The records of the Sub-committee on the Registration of Specialists at C1/6-7, on the other hand, probably comprise the official record of the sub-committee, as Sir John Peel, later RCOG president (1966-1969), was chairman from 1964-1966.

Immediate source of acquisition:

See Appraisal, destruction and scheduling information.
