Archival Information

Archival history:

Immediate source of acquisition:

Some of this material was received with the first accession of the archives of the Strangeways Research Laboratory in August 1986. A second accession from Audrey Glauert of the SRL in April 1989 included papers found in Dame Honor's house. Additional material was received from Dr Glauert in November 1991 and June 1994, and from Dr Roger Lawrence of the SRL in November 1995 (PP/HBF/A.22-27).

Allied Materials

Related material:

There is very considerable overlap between this material and that in the papers of the Strangeways Laboratory (SA/SRL), in the light of Dame Honor's very long connection with the Strangeways from 1923; as Director, 1929-1970. Readers are advised to consult the list of the Strangeways archives, also that of the papers of Frederick Gordon Spear (PP/FGS) who was Dame Honor's Deputy. Other CMAC collections containing relevant material are the papers of Sir Peter Medawar (PP/PBM), who was a Trustee of the SRL, and those of Sir Edward Mellanby (PP/MEL). A file of correspondence between Dame Janet Vaughan and Dr Audrey Glauert of the Strangeways, 1986-87, concerning the Royal Society Biographical Memoir, can be found in GC/186.
