The Squadron was founded in 1941 to train boys aged 16 to 18, working or studying in the City, as potential recruits to the Royal Air Force. The Lord Mayor was president of the committee which oversaw the recruitment and organisation of the Squadron.

Records of the Royal Air Force Training Corps, Squadron No 1282 (City of London). The records comprise: Civilian Committee minute book, 1941-7 (Ms 14387); attendance book, 1941-7 (Ms 14388); welfare papers, 1941-55 (Ms 14389); and scrapbook, 1941-6 (Ms 14390). They were catalogued by Guildhall Library staff in 1972.
