Context

Administrative/Biographical history:

This was a chartered accountancy partnership established in 1902 between E.E. Spicer and E.C. Pegler. Their address was 60 Watling Street. The firm became influential in the training of young accountants and published many standard textbooks. Following amalgamations with other firms in the 1970s and 1980s, Spicer and Oppenheim (as the firm was then known) amalgamated with Touche Ross and Company in 1990. Touche Ross and Company became Deloitte and Touche in 1996.

Records of Spicer and Pegler, chartered accountants, comprising private letterbooks 1902-12 and 1972, and photographs of Ernest Pegler, 1936.

Immediate source of acquisition:

They were presented to the Manuscripts Section of Guildhall Library by the former partners of Spicer and Pegler, via Deloitte & Touche, in 1996 and catalogued shortly afterwards by a member of Guildhall Library staff. The Guildhall Library Manuscripts Section merged with the London Metropolitan Archives in 2009.
