Administrative/Biographical history:

Sarita Sharma is a photographer who worked with the FORMAT Photographic Library and Agency. This was founded in 1983, and was unique in that it only dealt with work by women photographers. They concentrated on social issues in the UK and elsewhere. The work by Sarita Sharma reflects these priorities, in that she is concerned with communities in India, Sudan, and England.


Scope and content/abstract:

Illustrations of Asians and Asian communities in the UK and in India; also of East and West Sudan. Photographs and slides of some services of the Greater London Council. Illustrations of Punks in London.

Numbered items in a folder. The slides are kept in slide sheets and boxes.

Available to researchers, by appointment. Access to archive material is subject to preservation requirements and must also conform to the restrictions of the Data Protection Act and any other appropriate legislation.

Archival history:

This collection is part of the The South Asian Diaspora Literature and Arts Archive (SALIDAA) which was founded in 1999. The aim was to preserve sources and information about the contribution of the South Asian community to literature and arts in Britain.

Immediate source of acquisition:

SALIDAA deposited part of their archive with Brunel University Special Collections.
