Leo Austen was Assistant Resident Magistrate of the Western Division of Papua in the 1920s and served elsewhere in Papua during the 1930s. Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, 1929-1938.

Papers of Leo Austen, 1923-1925, including volume describing the Tedi district of Papua and its people with coloured drawings; volume containing a vocabulary of the Iongom languages and volume containing a list of geological specimens with sketch map.
