Scope and content/abstract:

Material relating to the documentary film series The Second Russian Revolution, 1989-1991, concerning the collapse of Communism and the policy of Glasnost pursued by the Communist party of the Soviet Union during the 1980s, made by Brian Lapping Associates Ltd and broadcast in May-Jul 1991, including original research interviews, interview transcripts, post-production transcripts, and audio tapes of interviews with leading personalities in the USSR; 7 VHS videotapes of the completed series of programmes; a series of 8 final programme scripts for the finalised and televised programmes; and an official press release package for the series. The collection also includes a VHS videotape [and transcripts] of two additional programmes entitled 'Countdown to Coup' and 'Coup', which were shown in Nov 1991 as an update to the events of 'The Second Russian Revolution'. The interviews include discussions with Mikhail Gorbachev and Boris Yeltsin. The producer of the series was Norma Percy, and the director was Mark Anderson.

Given by the BBC Contemporary Archives Unit and Brian Lapping Associates Ltd, via Paul Mitchell, 1991. A second accession of material relating to two additional programmes was given in the same year.
