Context

Administrative/Biographical history:

Manuel Andrade y Pastor was born in Mexico in 1809 and qualified as a surgeon and physician in Mexico in 1831-1833. He travelled to study in Paris in 1833-1836. On his return to Mexico he was appointed Director of the Hospital of Jesus. In 1838 he was made Director of the Escuela Nacional de Cirugía, which was incorporated later that year into the Establecimiento de Ciencias Médicas founded in 1833. He held the chair of anatomy here until his death in 1848.

Scope and content/abstract:

WMS/Amer.94 comprises documents relating to Andrade y Pastor, the majority by other hands: certificates of qualification, licences to carry firearms, bills for anatomical equipment and medical books, letters of appointment, an account of a medical case in which Andrade y Pastor took part, and official correspondence between him and other members of the faculty. WMS/Amer.136 consists of biographical drafts dating from shortly after Andrade y Pastor's death, by an unknown individual.
