Context
Administrative/Biographical history:
The Republic of Venice was created around 1140. It was headed by the Doge, and led by the Great Council, who controlled all political and administrative business. Ludovico Manin, the last doge, was deposed by Napoléon Bonaparte on May 12, 1797.

Scope and content/abstract:
Manuscript volume containing a collection of copy regulations and decrees relating to Venetian commerce, 1735-1739, some printed, including broadsheets on tarifs, and levies paid by couriers to Italian cities, and tables of duty paid on goods imported into and out of Verona, 1738-1739.

Immediate source of acquisition:
Part of the Goldsmith's Library of Economic Literature, initially collected by Herbert Somerton Foxwell and presented by the Goldsmith's Company to the University of London in 1903.
