Administrative/Biographical history:

Body Positive is an organisation formed in 1985 to provide support and information for individuals diagnosed as HIV positive, and to represent their views. The activities of the group included running a telephone counselling service, a hospital visiting group and a drop in centre, as well as organising training sessions and workshops for members and volunteer counsellors. Body Positive ceased to exist in 2000.

Papers of Body Positive, a support organisation for those diagnosed as HIV positive, 1985-2000, notably minutes of the Policy and Resources Group, 1986, the Counselling Group, 1985-1987, the Telephone Counselling Group, 1986-1987, and the Hospital Visiting Group, 1987; leaflets for the Counselling Support group, [1987]; Body Positive newsletters, 1985-2000; Body Positive (London) Gay Men's Group newsletters, 1985-2000; organisational papers, 1985-2000, including counselling rotas, correspondence and working files of Julian Meldrum, editor of the newsletter; leaflets, 1986-1987, on subjects including protected sex, counselling initiatives and regional groups.

Archival history:

The papers collected by Jonathan Grimshaw were lent to the AIDS Social History project based at the London School of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene and transferred to the British Library of Political and Economic Science in 1995. An additional deposit was made by Julian Meldrum in 2000.
