Papers of James Luke, 1821-1846, comprising certificates of his training, attendance for 3 months at the London Hospital Infirmary for Curing Diseases of the Eye, 1821, attendance at courses of lectures on Physiology and Anatomical Demonstrations and Dissection at the theatre of the London Hospital, 1822, attendance at courses of lectures on Physiology at the theatre of Guy's Hospital, course of lectures on Surgery at the theatre of St Thomas' Hospital; testimonials for Luke after his 6 year apprenticeship to J G Andrews, Surgeon to the London Hospital, 1822; certificate of admission to the Royal College of Surgeons, 1822; notes by Luke on the Medical and Surgical Staff of the Hospital [1740-1846], some taken from the minutes of the Faculty of Associated Lecturers, (now lost); list of pupils at the London Hospital, [1740 -1846], compiled by Luke, with later additions.

Archival history:

The volume of list of pupils at the London Hospital, [1740 -1846], was formerly in the Medical College Library and was transferred to the Archives.

Immediate source of acquisition:

Donated by Dr R C B Wall, Physician to the London Hospital and grandson of Mr James Luke, in 1927 and 1985.
