Administrative/Biographical history:

The Association of Hospital Matrons was founded in 1919 with an Executive Committee of 15 members. Its aims were to enable members to consult on professional matters, enable concerted action to be taken on legislative proposals and to further the interests of the nursing profession. Membership in 1929 numbered 521.
