Born, 1902; trained, Guy's Hospital; demonstrator in anatomy, Guy's Hospital; Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, 1928; volunteer assistant, later house surgeon under Hugh Cairns, Director of the Neurosurgical Unit, London Hospital, 1933; Consultant Neurosurgeon and Director, Neurosurgical Unit, London Hospital, 1938-1967; died, 1976.
Publications: The surgery of the central nervous system (Blackwell Scientific, Oxford, 1973).


Scope and content/abstract:

Papers of Douglas Northfield, comprising lantern slides, [1937-1960s], of various conditions, some microscopic; photographs collected by Northfield, of himself, colleagues, events, some personal photographs, [1940s-1960s]; correspondence as Secretary of the Society of British Neurological Surgeons, [1960s]; notes made as Honorary Surgeon to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, [1935-1940]; correspondence with the Ministry of Health, as adviser on neurosurgery, 1961-1967.
