Born Tasmania; studied physics and astronomy at Melbourne University; took part in the Southern Cross expedition, 1898; came to England, 1900; Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, 1900-1942; physicist on the National Antarctic expedition, 1901-1904; Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve (anti-submarine division) 1914-1919; Member of RGS Council 1929-31; RGS Medal.

Papers of Louis Charles Bernacchi, 1901-1925, including private diary covering the voyage of the DISCOVERY, 14 Feb-5 Nov [1901-1904], including sketch maps and photographs and folder containing a synopsis of the Antarctic expedition of 1925.

Accessed via the Foyle Reading Room. Free of charge for Fellows, Members and those with valid academic identification. All other users pay a charge and must bring identification in order to register on arrival.
