Administrative/Biographical history:

John Jeavons-Fellows was a member of the International Rugby (Football) Board, (IRB), representing England.

The International Rugby Football Board was formed in 1886. It gradually assumed more responsibility for the running of the game and making of its laws. In 1995, the Board announced the game would become 'open', and players could be paid for playing, effectively abolishing the amateur status of the game.


Scope and content/abstract:

Personal papers of John Jeavons-Fellows comprising copies of minutes and papers of the International Rugby (Football) Board (IRB), relating particularly to the transition period of the game from amateur to professional.

Records include: minutes and papers of the IRB Annual Meeting, 1992-1998; Interim Meetings, 1996, 1997, 1998; Annual Meetings of the Council, 1996-1999, as well as papers relating to proposed alterations to the laws of the game 1998; Special Meetings of the Council, 1995-1999; International Meetings, 1992-1995; International Meeting of Council, 1995-1996; General Meetings of the Board, 1994, 1996, 1999;
