Charles Frederick Terence East (known as Terence); son of Charles Harry East; born, 1894; appointed as Junior Physician, Senior Medical Tutor and Lecturer in Morbid Anatomy at King's College Hospital, 1924; Physician to King's College Hospital, 1931; Senior Physician and Director of Medical Studies in King's College Medical School, 1945-1959; retired 1959; died, 1968.

Charles Harry East, father of Charles Frederick Terence East; born 1861; educated at King's College London, 1880-1884; Medical Tutor and Registrar, House Surgeon, House Physician and Ophthalmology clinic assistant, King's College Hospital; Assistant Demonstrator of Anatomy, King's College London.

Scope and content/abstract:

Papers and books of Dr Charles Frederick Terence East, 1881-1960, including East's doctoral thesis, University of Oxford 'A dissertation on the clinical significance and interpretation of aberrant electrocardiograms, shewing prolongation of the Q.R.S complex'. Publications, including annotated books by East, notably The Story of Heart Disease (William Dawson and Sons Ltd, London, 1958), the FitzPatrick Lectures for 1956 and 1957 given before the Royal College of Physicians of London; The History and Conquest of Common Diseases, edited by Walter R. Bett and including a chapter on 'Heart Disease' by Terence East (Norman: University of Oklahoma Press, 1954) and Recent Advances in Cardiology by Terence East and Curtis Bain (J. & A. Churchill Ltd, London). Offprints of articles by East and others and programme for a library exhibition on Baldwin Hamey, 17 May 1951. Photographs of chest x-rays, 1937 and 1941. Articles by East bound in a volume entitled 'Papers 1922-1958 T.E.' including re-prints from The Lancet the British Heart Journal, and the King's College Hospital Gazette. Issues of King's College Gazette containing articles by East, 1939-1960. Copy of East's retirement announcement with black and white photograph of East, as appeared in the Nurses League Journal (1960). Notebooks containing press cuttings of reviews of works by East and related correspondence including reviews of Cardiovascular Disease in General Practice (H.K Lewis and Co., London, 1938, 1946, 1949) ; Failure of the Heart and Circulation (John Bale, Sons and Curnow, London, 1937) and The Story of Heart Disease. Minutes of the King's College Hospital Medical School Listerian Society, 1958-1959, of which Dr Terence East was President. Book, Ellis's anatomy originally belonging to Dr Charles Harry East, King's College Hospital, containing manuscript notes on anatomy, 1881 and Charles Harry East's casebook, 1881.
