Context

Administrative/Biographical history:

The Centre for Reform is a public policy think tank concerned with the values of the Liberal Democrats, also accessible to any person interested in debating social, economic and political reform.

The Centre serves two primary functions: one, to provide an arena for Liberal Democrats to participate in discussion outside the constraints of the formal policy - making structures; two, to introduce ideas from outside the party into Liberal Democrat debates and discussions. The Centre for Reform was created at the Southport Federal Conference in March 1998 and announced its first programme of activities in June 1998. Its structure consists of a full-time Directer, supported by part-time administrative and research support.

Scope and content/abstract:

Papers of the Centre for Reform, 1998-1999, comprises newsletters, publicity leaflets, audio tapes, video, press cuttings, press releases, minutes of management committee, papers presented to the group and advisory board meeting papers, all relating to the Centre for Reform.

Collection consists of two boxes of records containing separate folders of papers, press cuttings, newsletters, press releases, publicity leaflets, press packs and management committee minutes and agendas. The minutes and agendas are held in chronological order.

Conditions governing access:

Mainly open; some items closed.

Conditions governing reproduction:

Most items can be photocopied, subject to handling and copyright restrictions. No material may be published without the prior permission of both the copyright holder and the Library. All applications for publication must be made to the Archivist in the first instance, but responsibility for ensuring copyright clearance rests with the user.
