Administrative/Biographical history:

National Family Mediation was founded in 1981. It co-ordinates the work of voluntary sector family mediation services in England and Wales to assist couples who are in the process of separation and divorce. NFM encourages the take-up of family mediation; promotes professional standards; carries out research, consultancy and training; organises conferences; liaises with government, the legal profession, advice agencies and other voluntary organisations; and provides information to the public.

Scope and content/abstract:

Papers, correspondence, reports and photographs concerning National Family Mediation and their work, 1981-2000. Includes material concerning the administration of central and local branches, training courses and workshops, involvement in the shaping of government legislation, casework material and the arrangements and proceedings of conferences. Also includes minutes of NFM committees, publications and photographs of staff and events.
