Context

Administrative/Biographical history:

These items were originally created by A N Drury, FRS, Chairman of the Medical Research Council Blood Transfusion Committee. Drury worked with the committee and other allied bodies, engaging in the organisation and development of the Blood Transfusion Services necessary as part of the war effort. In 1943 he became Director of the Lister Institute. These files were accumulated by him in his continuing involvement in the Blood Transfusion Service, in the running of which the Ministry of Health, the Medical Research Council and the Lister Institute were co-operating.

Three files concerning liaison between the Lister Institute, Medical Research Council, and the Ministry of Health over arrangement of and publicity for the Blood Transfusion Service, 1943-1949; photos of Minister of Health's party for Blood Transfusion Service, 1954.

These items were presented to the CMAC in March 1989 by Professor Ralph A Kekwick, formerly of the Blood Products Laboratory at the Lister Institute. Professor Kekwick had received them from Lady Maycock, subsequent to the death of her husband, Sir William d'A Maycock, former Head of the Blood Products Laboratory of the Lister Institute at Elstree.
