W Waller was a surgeon at Gosport, Hampshire, reported to be a pupil of John Hunter together with his brother, also W Waller, a surgeon at Portsmouth. The name Waller appears in the Hampshire Directory for 1784 under Surgeons in Gosport.

Papers of W Waller, surgeon of Gosport, late 18th century, comprising a manuscript volume of notes taken by Waller at John Hunter's lectures, titled An Abstract of Lectures on Surgery delivered at London by Mr John Hunter.

Archival history:

The volume was given to Mr J B Winter of Brighton, along with many others, by Mr W Waller, surgeon of Gosport, in c 1840. Winter was Waller's maternal uncle. The manuscript belonged to the Brighton and Sussex Medico-Chirurgical Society in 1847, but was discarded from the collection during a move of premises. Since that time the volume was in the possession of Mr Hugh James McCurrich.
