The WDAH [World Day for AudioVisual Heritage] takes place every year. In addition to raising awareness of AV heritage collections, WDAH highlights issues around the importance of their preservation. It is also an opportunity to celebrate and enjoy the variety and richness of AudioVisual archives around the world. This year, WDAH falls on Sunday the 27th of October.
To mark this special occasion, The International Council on Archives/ Photographic and Audiovisual Archives Working Group, will be presenting a series of webinars between October the 23rd and 28th, details of which can be found here.
UNESCO and the Coordinating Council of Audiovisual Archives Associations (CCAAA), is using the occasion to celebrate the work of archives, while raising awareness of the importance and urgency of protecting audiovisual materials with a promotional video.
There will also be in-person events around the globe, which present a special opportunity to view and enjoy the world’s rarest AV material, including a special screening of the Great Wall in Suzhou, a month-long programme at “বাংলাদেশ ফিল্ম আর্কাইভ: অডিওভিজ্যুয়াল তথ্যের ভাণ্ডার” (Bangladesh Film Archive: Storehouse of Audiovisual data) screened at its premises in Dhaka, and the Restoration Premiere of The Girl From The Marsh Croft (Aysel Bataklı Damın Kızı, 1935, Turkey, director: Muhsin Ertuğrul) at Sinematek/Sinema Evi, Hasırcıbaşı Cad. Hasırcı Sok. No:16, Kadıköy, Istanbul, Turkey.
