The second XRchiving conference took place at King’s College London on 20 April 2024. The event brought together archivists, town planners, architects, and software designers to discuss the use of Extended Reality by the Galleries, Libraries, Archives and Museums (GLAM) sector. Extended Reality technologies include virtual reality and augmented reality, in which virtual experiences are overlaid on the real world. The conference was opened by the current Lord Mayor of London, Professor Michael Mainelli, and featured talks and roundtable discussions on the digital public realm, the regeneration of urban spaces, standards around the preservation of immersive environments and the education programmes to train the next generation of archivists to use this technology.
